Dr. Melissa-Ann Nievera-Lozano …sees storytelling as medicine. Born and bred in southeast San Diego, CA, she is the child of Filipino (Igorot and Waray) immigrants. Her research sources from women-of-color radical thought, which guides her community work surrounding the intersectional struggles of racism, classism, and heteropatriarchy impacting our lives across families and generations. Melissa currently resides in San Jose, CA where she is raising two little boys, Mateo and Dante, with her partner Dennis, while teaching ethnic studies courses throughout the Bay Area.
Anthony (Tony) Abulencia Santa Ana …is a doctoral candidate in the International/Multicultural Education department at the University of San Francisco and identifies as a HELLA Bay Area Pin@y, born in San Francisco and raised in San Jose, CA. He globe trots mother earth seeking and searching to find truth and beauty in our ever-changing vast world. Tony’s passions are creatively expressing himself through music, movement, words and basketball. He always lives his life to the fullest so he hopes to inspire others to do the same.
